Such As You

I’ve inherited all of our enemies,
With none of your defences.
Each and every day
Growing more savage.

Refining my tastes
On life,
On individuals…
How to spend my time,
Energy…

Knowing when to precisely
Play my cards,
Should I even be playing.

Shame,
That it has come this.
Incapable to fully surrendering,
Always protecting…
On the look out
For anything
Which may render
Doubt,
Uncertainty…
Defiance.

Working to my benefit,
While working against it…

So many walls
I’ve built
Safeguarding myself
Against those
Such as you.
Ones said to protect,
Yet the one…
I needed protection from.

And as time goes on,
I’m learning…
Discovering…
How it is
I can still be me,
While averting you…
Those such as you.
